Identity, Difference and Allyship: Raising our Awareness and Challenging Stereotypes through Reflection and Conversation
February, 27, 2019. Research shows that throughout early childhood, children become aware of cultural identities such as gender, race, ethnicity and ability. They also begin to absorb society’s messages about these forms of identity, which often subtly reinforce stereotypes and bias. How can parents work to actively counter these pervasive messages in order to foster children’s anti-bias development? The goal of this workshop is to provide parents and caregivers with language and proactive strategies for addressing children’s questions and misconceptions around difference and modeling how to be an ally through action and dialog. Participants will be asked to engage in thoughtful reflection and discussion around personal identity. Presented by Randi Reinhold, BCD’s Coordinator of Equity & Inclusion.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) program in Middle School
The benefits of an International Baccalaureate (IB) program are well known within the high school realm, but what are the benefits of IB during the middle school years? Join us as a panel of representatives from three Boulder-area middle schools offering the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) (BCD, Sunset Middle School, and Mackintosh Academy) and IB Consultant, Lou Marchesano, discuss how the MYP is implemented and the benefits to young adolescent students. Join us for cooperative challenges and gameplay every Friday afternoon! We have room for 16 players every session on a first-come first-served basis. Fridays from 3:30-5 pm. Recommended for ages 7 and up. No meetings in August.
Go Club for Kids & Teens at Boulder Library
Learn to play the ancient and mysterious board game known as Go. Developed 4000 years ago in China, the rules are so simple they can be taught in a few minutes–but it can take a lifetime to master the game. Go boards are provided and take-home sets made of cardboard are available for free. Ages 5 and up.
